Sons of the American Revolution to Honor Members of the Community on Saturday

AUBURN, CA – – The Gold Country Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) will conduct their annual Community Service Awards Breakfast and medal presentation this Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 9:00 AM at Lou La Bonte’s restaurant in Auburn.

The Law Enforcement Commendation Medal will be presented to retired Auburn Police Chief Valerie Harris.  The Fire Safety Commendation medal will go to Captain James Turner of Nevada County Fire. The Emergency Medical Services Commendation Medal will go to Captain Mike Deme’ of CAL FIRE/Placer County Fire Sunset Station 77. The Medal for Heroism will be presented to 11 year old Boy Scout James Fackrell.

SAR members are decedents of a patriot who fought or assisted the cause of American Independence between 1774 and 1783.  The group sponsors many youth and educational programs and is actively involved in the community. The Gold Country Chapter was founded in 1924 and is based in Placer and Nevada County. Membership comes from throughout the foothills region.
